Is your knee stiff and tight or maybe even painful? This is a super common problem and there could be many reasons why this is happening. One of the most common reasons is because of a muscle length/stiffness issue in one of the quad muscles, called the rectus femoris muscle.
This muscle tends to brew up some issues at the knee (as well as other joints). Testing to make sure there is a length/stiffness issue is crucial first (Thomas test). Then from here addressing the muscle in a specific way. This muscle has an affect on two joints the hip AND the knee because it originates at the hip and inserts into the knee.
So, the fix? Addressing this muscle in a specific way is crucial to make good mobility gains. Some mobility drills that are commonly missed to address this muscle is eccentrics and activation drills. Eccentrics are great to improve the length/flexibility of the area. Then, following that up with activation drills to work into a new range of motion that this muscle would LIMIT if it were tight and stiff.
