About Dr. Nick

Dr. Nick Buonforte, PT, CSCS, SFMA, FMT, FR, FRCms is the founder and creator of Untapped Lifestyle and The Untapped Mobility System. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University and his bachelor’s of science degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in exercise physiology from William Paterson University. He has advanced training from the NSCA, Spinal Manipulative Institute, Functional Range Conditioning, Functional Movement Techniques, and many others. He also owns a private orthopedic physical therapy practice in New Jersey. Dr Nick is an avid athlete and when he's not hanging out with his wife and dog you will find him on the tennis court, working out, or shooting content for his popular Instagram channel.

Dr. Nick's Story

When I look back at my youth, I see constant motion. I've always been passionate about sports; and if you could ask my teenage self what my sole love was, the answer would be basketball.

As a young adult, I spent thousands of hours working to improve my game. I played every chance I could. I set goals. I learned from coaches and trainers. I put in the conditioning work. I did strength training. I watched. I practiced. I grew. I landed my final goal by playing Division II college basketball. 

I didn't fully understand then that my body was actually suffering; my joints and muscles were stiff. My severe limitations with mobility and flexibility led to chronic low back pain, knee pain, and hip pain. I'd stretch and stretch, and do more stretching, have my trainers stretch me out, read a ton for solutions, and they all came up short with no long-term relief and no results.

I struggled with this for years.

As a result, I was drawn to Physical Therapy. I wanted to gain insight into the body, understand why I wasn't getting better, and help others who needed relief. After several years of schooling, I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and I was off to start treating my patients. 

I used what I learned on a professional level; I was showing my patients how to stretch out their sore muscles and stiff joints to relieve their aches and pains. Unfortunately, my patients weren't all getting better. Some found temporary relief, but most weren't finding those long-lasting results.

As a new DPT, I felt hopeless. I went back to the basics and looked closer at my own body: with all of my new knowledge and practice, was I getting the results I wanted for myself?

I realized quickly that I had to make a change.

After months of hyper-focus and dedicated practice, I finally discovered a new method for improving my own mobility that unlocked all of my tight muscles and joints!
